Past activities and revivals?

Youth work lives from local activities on the ground – sometimes these are not possible anymore – this might be caused by a change of a local group leader / coordinator but also by external factors. The Russian full scale invasion of Ukraine for example limited socioMovens‘ possibilities to realise projects with minors on the ground. We hope to see a revival of the respective activities, whenever possible!

Ukraine

In Ukraine the project cooperation started in 2017 in cooperation with a Salesian gymnasium in L’viv. Activities in Kyjiw and Ivano-Frankivsk followed. In 2022 our international youth festival took place in Kraków „United with Ukraine“.

Latvia

Riga, the capital of Latvia hosted the very first pilot project week. Back then the concept of engagement communities was not established yet. Therefore, project work on the ground was not continued. The video nevertheless gives important insights into the initiative that grew during those days.

Kazakhstan

socioMovens‘ involvement in Kazakhstan was founded from Slovakia: A young priest who had become acquainted with the youth work of the European network has also been involved with socioMovens in his new parish in Atyrau, Kazakhstan, right on the border between Europe and Asia, between 2019 and 2024. Catholic youth work was largely unknown here, and church social institutions for cooperation with socioMovens, such as a rehabilitation centre for children with Down syndrome or an orphanage run by sisters, are often many hundreds of kilometres away from the young people. This is a particular challenge for the commitment and the youth weeks. When the local coordinator left Kazakhstan, this posed also a preliminary end to the activities on the ground
